To my West Brookfield neighbors –

My name is David Eisenthal – and I hope you will consider voting for me for Selectman on Tuesday, May 6.

I’m running because I believe that I have a lot to offer you if you elect me to the Board of Selectmen.

I have 24 years of experience working in different ways with cities and towns in Massachusetts. For the past 19 years, I have worked professionally as an advisor to cities and towns that are borrowing money. This work has made me very familiar with how cities and towns work – or should work. I spent three years before that working for the Massachusetts Department of Revenue providing technical assistance on cities and towns on their finances.

In addition to my professional work with cities and towns, I have spent a number of years as a volunteer board member – three years as an elected member of the Sharon (Mass.) School Committee and four years as an appointed member of the Framingham Permanent Building Committee. I was elected to the Sharon School Committee in 1984 at the age of 22 – one of the youngest elected officials in that Town’s history.

My education was, I think, good preparation for a career working with government – and good preparation for an office like the Board of Selectmen. I got my Bachelor’s degree in American History at Clark University in 1983 – and I received a Masters in Public Policy from Harvard’s Kennedy of School of Government in 1985.

On top of my experience and education – and reflected in them – is my commitment to public service. Government – particularly town government – affects people’s lives in a very direct way – public safety, roads, and education are all very important in people’s lives. (To see what I think are the important issues, click on “ISSUES” above.) With my experience and knowledge, I believe that I can make a real contribution to the quality of life in West Brookfield.

I know what it takes to combine fresh ideas, strength of principle, and good working relationships in a way to be an effective Selectman. In the end, this election should be about who can best work with Selectmen Nadon and Long to do the best possible job for West Brookfield.

One more thing. If you elect me, I will always seek to be approachable and available – I will always return a resident’s phone call. I will never forget that the Selectmen are elected by the people to do the people’s business.

Experience. Knowledge. Commitment. This is what have to offer in this election – and I hope that you will vote for me on Tuesday, May 6.
